Grow Where You Are Planted
I have a natural desire to wander. Everyday I am dreaming of the places I would like to travel to and thinking of how we can make it happen. I have come to realize it is absolutely impossible to do all of the things I want to do while raising a family and trying to save for retirement and college.
So lately, I have been spending a lot of my time focusing on growing where I have been planted. We have been taking time to enjoy what we have right here at home. If you truly take the time to stop and look around there are endless adventures to have right where you are. We live in a time where we can find any information on the internet. It is all right there for the taking, take advantage of it!
At the beginning of this year we took a trip around Virginia. The purpose of our trip was simple. Donuts. Oh yes, donuts. We found a list of the 10 Best Donuts in Virginia and honestly, if you tell me these donuts are the best, how can I resist finding out for myself? I came up with an idea for a Donut Drive. I really did think that Nick would call me crazy and that would be the end of it, but surprisingly he came around to the idea pretty quickly. So, the week after Christmas, we set off! We hit a few snags along the way and were not able to hit all of the shops, but we plan to finish off the list by the end of the year (we have three more to go!).
Our kids mention this trip constantly. They ask when we are going to do it again. I don't think it is a trip they are every going to forget and it was right here at home. We didn't leave our state! It certainly cost us less than our trip to Disneyworld and I honestly couldn't tell you which trip they talk about more! We are planning more trips like this in the future and we are constantly looking for adventures around Virginia. I love the website ONLYINYOURSTATE. It is where we found our donut list. Look around for your own adventures and start making those memories!
